Workshops & Community Education

Answer: Workshops are designed for female participants aged 18 and over due to the content being discussed. We also run workshops in a peer-led environment which means that some information that is discussed is not age appropriate. However, we can organise workshops, based on demand and feedback, to meet the community needs.

We encourage the community to contact us to discuss their ideas and needs so we can develop programs to meet your requests and also gather interest from the community, as a whole.

No, we don’t. We actually encourage workshops to be run outside, in a park, so we can also encourage women, with children to attend, and for those who enjoy being in the sunshine. We do encourage participants to discuss any safety issues they may have by attending a workshop in a public setting.

At the Gladstone Women’s Health Centre we can organise virtual attendance; however, we want to encourage community connection and this can be done better when we attend in-person. Please call us to discuss your specific needs and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Puberty Clues is an opportunity to start the conversation and explore how ongoing communication can occur with your daughter before and during puberty – a time of a lot of change both physically and mentally. Therefore, it is required that mothers/a female guardian does attend with their daughter. While we would encourage fathers to be included; we do need to consider other participants and being able to ask questions which they may not do with a male who attends. We are happy to discuss father/daughter programs with you.

Puberty Blues is an opportunity to start the conversation and explore how ongoing communication can occur with you son before and during puberty- a time of a lot of change both physically and mentally. Therefore, it is required that fathers/a male guardian does attend with their son. Whilst we would encourage mothers to be included; we do need to consider other participants and being able to ask questions which they may not do with a female who attends. We are happy to discuss mother/son programs with you.

The Gladstone Women’s Centre aims to deliver to a range of locations from Raglan to Agnes Water; including Tannum Sands, Calliope and out to Biloela. We understand that accessibility can be an issue for participants to attend workshops and where possible we do want to run at least one workshop a month in each of these areas to encourage participation.

If you are an organisation and have a cohort of people interested, please contact us about a workshop you are interested in. We would also encourage you to discuss if you would allow public participation as well to increase numbers for the workshop delivery.

We encourage any organisation, individuals, community organisations to contact us about workshops. For example, we can run LOVE BiTES program for year 10-12 students that meets the Queensland Curriculum for consent then we are very happy to organise this training with a home schooling group.

Gladstone is a small city; however, we discuss respecting people’s privacy at the start of the workshop and we will remind participants about their depth of their disclosure that could identify another community member, family, child, local organisation and others when they are discussing examples or participating in peer-led discussions. We also welcome you to ask to speak to the facilitator of the workshop in a private manner and let them know if you need to leave the workshop and options for future attendance.

Gladstone Women’s Health is a community driven centre that is committed in ensuring that when you require information on other community services available that we will provide you with the information and resources to connect you to other service providers. We will also, where possible, transfer or refer you to a service so you understand why the service provider may be an option for you and for your journey forward. It is also possible for us to email other service providers to introduce and connect you with them so they in-turn can contact you directly.
